ABOUT SOPHIA

While volunteering at a local pregnancy care center my freshman year of college, I picked up a business card for a midwife, and the rest is history. I fell in love with the mysterious and incredible world of birth with a strong intuition that God was leading me to be a midwife.

Although I’m not (yet!) a midwife, I have been a birth doula since 2020 and have had the privilege of attending more than 25 births while serving countless women and families along the way!

My PASSION is educating women on their body’s physiologic design for birth and helping them navigate the challenges of our over-medicalized system.

I recently moved to the Inland Northwest and am so excited to make it my home! When I’m not nerding out about birth, women’s health, or the history of midwifery, I love journaling, embroidery, hiking, and going to coffee shops (fun fact: I worked as a barista for two years!)

I believe that children are a blessing from God and dream of having a big family one day (Psalm 127:3)!

In a world that has become increasingly polarized, I want to encourage families that wherever and however they choose to give birth, they deserve to feel PEACEFUL, PREPARED, & CONFIDENT.

My Birth Beliefs

Beyond my education and training, I believe it’s important to be share the beliefs that guide my birth philosophy:

  • I believe that God beautifully & purposefully designed birth

  • I affirm the sanctity of life & that all people are created in the image of God

  • I believe that birth is a physical, emotional, & spiritual event

  • I affirm that birth is a transformative experience in the life of the mother & family

  • I believe that birth is physiological, meaning that the birth hormones and bodily processes play a critical role in supporting versus hindering labor progress

  • I believe birth can safely take place in homes, birth centers, & hospitals

  • I believe that birth involves both trust and surrender

  • I believe that women deserve to feel respected, heard, & supported

  • I affirm that birth is not a medical event, but there are situations where receiving medical interventions is the best course of action for comfort, desire, &/or necessity

  • I believe that the Holy Spirit guides our intuition & serves as a guide to decision-making in labor and birth

  • I believe in the personal responsibility of parents to put their journey into parenthood into their own hands, which includes choosing their birth team, location, & preparation

  • I believe that while birth does not always go to plan, the process of preparing for birth is a necessary & integral part of the journey to motherhood

  • I believe that motherhood has eternal significance
